Tucson Gay News began in 1967 as a one page
Gay news bulletin by
some students in a local
tucson public middle school.
Once school officials found out about
the "Illegal Devient
Behavior Homosexual"
material being circulated in the school
an
investigation [aka Witchhunt] quickly
followed.
The
students realizing the dangers from
both teachers and parents
that might occur
went "underground" with their efforts.
By
high school the news bulletin had then
developed into a 4 page
news publication
with information also covering the upcoming
Anti-War and 420 Legalization protests
out at the university
campus. The
Tucson Gay News was strickly
passed out only to
fellow underground
supporting students.
